What do you think about the new show “Fly Girls”?

Posted by passrider On March - 25 - 2010

Last night, the newest airline reality show “Fly Girls” premiered on the CW. The show is about the life and times of six flight attendants from the San Francisco-based Virgin America.

There are mixed reviews around the workplace this morning I’m sure, what is your take on it?

Here is an airticle on it – http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1260576/Fly-Girls-reality-branded-sexist-demeaning.html#ixzz0jChU7vUK

I does not reflect the real life of a F/A. The show is a Hollywood production! An another marketing tool for Richard Brandson! They should contact me, i can give them a site about my struggles, headaches from my, jod, the paycuts and the lsot of my pension. I can not watch the show it is patetic!

  2. Bob says:

Are you kidding…so not reality..all scripted and over all makes Virgin America a place one would not want to work at…show won’t last unless Sir Dick wants to dump money into it for publicity…1/2 hour infomerical.

  3. Mary says:

The only “REAL” thing they got right; airlines do hire female and male flight attendants. And that is ALL that is real about this so called “show”.

  4. Becca says:

It is an “UNreality” show – irritating waste of time!

  5. Greg says:

TV is for uncreative people. Reality TV is for stupid people.

  6. Cindy says:

If you are seeking reality in television then i suggest you visit a production studio sometime. Big foot says hi

Hey you ‘comment removed by passrider.com’s Admin’, why don’t you get a real job and stop bitching around! All I hear that you aren’t happy and you hate passengers. Well, you know what, go find another job! If you weren’t that ugly and stupid airlines would have had more business, ’cause more people would fly! Hire more hot girls and make it a contract job for 1-3 years, like it’s done all over the world!

Hmmmmmmmmm……must want to be on the show Rick.

    Lame

  9. Lorrie says:

Rick, has no concept of flying on an airplane. Are you sure you belong to this website? Or even work with the public? Flight attendants are human beings don’t deserved to be treated like crap, here for safety & are trained to get your ass out in a hurry if necessary. It’s not Hooters, for hot chics,to entertain you while your on a flight. Have your ever flown before??
Experience and Safety makes a good airline!!!!!!!!

  10. Rolena says:

I completely agree with you, Lorrie! Rick has absolutely no idea what
    he’s talking about.

  11. vishal says:

Thank you lorrie for putting that idiot in his place, hey rick if u want hot girls on a plane then charter one and the people that work as flight attendants are called women and men and i believe the term u want to say is gay not ‘the one you used’. as for the show it is for fun if u dont like it change the channel.

  12. Laurie says:

it’s not even funny or entertaining..we all knew it would be a complete fabrication but come on….and we all know how much they make..can they really afford to live in marina del rey? They all must have rich daddys or sugar daddys…to bad..it could have been funny.

  13. marlo says:

To a certain point it is important for a flight attendant to be within a weight proportion for safety and heath concerns..safety is of course number one priority but have some pride in the way you present yourself and how you look, trust me it does make a difference. Iam tired of seeing sloppy, overweight, no makeup, messy hair dont care flight attendants, yes alot of us have suffered with the changes in the industry but there are still a few of us that not only take safety as importance but appearance as a necessity….Fly Girls…..Stupid..

  14. Tc says:

Not a true representation of the job. The airlines have trivialize the job the wages are terrible, you sacrifice time from home . Get no respect for the work you do, have to take more cut to make profits for management due too the lagging economy! No longer a reprutable career! The show is definately not reality!! Speaking from a 10 yr flight attendant

  15. Diane says:

Marlo…I must agree with you. I work for a commuter airline. It is sad to say that many of our flight attendants don’t give a hoot about apearances. Many are way over weight to work on a 50 seat CRJ. I am small framed, and even my hips sometimes brush against a passenger or a seat. The male flight attendants look better than the females. Years ago when I worked for a major carrier. We had a makeup class that all had to attend. Although they had a very poor cosmetic selections for people of color…you got the idea! I think that all airlines should put some attendants on weight check and require the females to at least were a lip color. After all it never hurts to be work more comfortably on an airplane, must of all it is healthier to be within your weight class according to ones age and height…I will go further to say that even the passengers, should have dress codes. ..Finally I was not interested in Fly Girls when it was announced as I knew that it would be staged and far from the true. I think that with all of the compliants from real airline folks they may produce furture depict our actual working days.

    Its Trashier than Heide Montag!!!

  17. RJ says:

Flygirls show what a big joke… does not show the true life of a flight attendant especially those who work for small airlines like virgin America(show based on) and others such as jetblue, air tran, spirit..etc show depicts unreal facts and is too scripted. FA’s are there for safety of pax not to babysit or to get “dates and party invited for hookups” which this show “fly girls” is all about! This show needs to be taken off the air and the company should re-evaluate their marketing purpose. I watch this show 3 times to get a good judgment and every time i see it i think of hookers and street walkers for the most part lol. No a reality show at all.. srry its a joke and show be taken off air!

  18. RJ says:

TO RICK: You must not be a crew member and have no experience in our field of work so you shouldnt even be on this site. You have no repect of crew members u want hot girls who dress and act like tramps with no self respect go find them else where haha based on the show go fly the “fly girls” airline you will get what you want… you prolly wont get a safe and respected flight but you will get what u want. Professionalism, safety makes a great airline.. Thanks for everyone who correct this rick fellow! now rick get off our site until you find some respect for crew members. we are here for our fellow pax safety on our flights and nothing else…

  19. mgmtboss says:

Its a great show. Even the commercials are great. All very accurate. I like the contract idea, keeps everyone “fresh”. Isn’t it all about attitude, really??

  20. Bob Dupont says:

There are a lot of great flight attendants out hitting it hard every day. Just hope they can keep in line the bad ones. Its life some are good and some are bad. Only standards I would like to see would be a little first aid. When I went to school at the aa, we did the required stuff. Basic really. I think the focus should be safety. Get them out on the ground and try to keep them alive in the air. Thanks to all the good ones that try all the time not just when the cameras are on….

  21. Ricky says:

haha its a big joke, driving around in a Hummer lol. come out to Kew Gardens NY and we’ll show america reality! real crash pads and the Q10.

  22. Flygirl says:

I knew the show would be crap when I read it in the paper that was left on my plane one day. The show is just plain stupid and doesn’t even come close to reality. Is it even still on?

  23. ms.fa says:

the reality of the airline business:

    -long work days
    -poor pay
-pax treating you like an idiot
    -short overnights
-cramp crashpads (but cheap right!! we gotta save money one way or another)
-short service flights (complete meal service in 45 minutes really! 50 pax and one flight attendant)
-not getting home in time for: weddings birthdays aniversary etc..
-when working for a commuter getting put last in the standby list
    *retiree goes first
    *buddy passes goes first
*every body and their mama go first and you that have to get to work go last…..
-geting ocurrences because your are sick and cant make it to work

they should make the reality show on the regional airlines that is really hard work it makes me mad to see that people are gonna think that flight attendants are easy girls that find dates on aircrafts
i love my job it is hard but i love it but that reality show makes me really mad…

  24. RJ says:

Reality of work days is far from this silly show! this week! 5am show 6a departure, 1 leg then 4 hr airport sit till next plane arrives to continue remaining 3 leg day.. show layover 11 hrs then 3 legs next day… think fly girls are showing reality lol i dont think so! show is crap! should be taken off air///

  25. CrewDudeMA says:

Five minutes into the first episode one of the guys at a party mentioned wanting to join the “mile high club” with a flight attendant. Really?? Didn’t they just set flight attendants back about 20 years as a whole profession?

Coincidentally, if you couldn’t stomach the first episode, the current Virgin America flight attendants who are trying to unionize created a commercial. You can YouTube it (and I admit I got a chuckle from the first guy who says, “I’m a fly guy”). I work at a non-union airline and am proud of it but from what I hear from my friends Virgin totally needs a union and their first plan of action is to get that program pulled!

  26. chris says:

    hot girls, that’s about it

  27. ak drifter says:

Awesome. It looks like they pulled some pretty girls out of an audition in LA, sent them to flight attendant school and said, ‘here, read these lines.’

Although, that’s the kind of stuff that made working for the airlines glorious 20-30 years ago right? Life on the road, pretty girls, handsome young men.

Go ahead, yell at me for not caring and not being politically correct.

  28. Dr MacDREAMY says:

Plz don’t start with Grey’s Anatomy now………..It’s TV..it’s not real

  29. Skyhigh says:

Who’s crashpad really looks like that?

  30. mark says:

    just curious….

If I drive a 2010 Camaro to work and used to drive an 04 BMW 745 Li, and I am a flight attendant for a regional company…. would you believe it???? Because in reality, I do drive those, and I am a flight attendant for a Regional.

Oh, BTW, I also live in an awesome studio in where I am based.

  31. Shera says:

Well I can say this. I flew non-rev from a Virgin America ITM interview yesterday from SFO to LAX and Louise (the asian) from the show (which I’ve never seen) was one of the Flight Attendants. So they are real, and were not actresses.

The funny thing was when I first saw her I thought she looked familiar. She is ridiculously pretty and skinny but I saw her lift quite a few mens heavy carry-ons into the overhead. Did anyone ever consider that maybe they took the gig to do the show BECAUSE flight attendant pay is so low.

I will also say that when Louise bent over to hand a PAX something you could faintly see through the blouse openings a sexy lace bra. So the promos that aired of them getting dressed in sexy lingerie for work is apparently true, lol!

  32. CHRIS says:

ONE OF THE BEST AIRLINES OUT THERE. MAKING THE EXPERIENCE BETTER FOR THE PAX AGAIN. IF YOU HAVENT BEEN ON A FLIGHT THEN YOU DONT KNOW

  33. Well written article, well researched and useful for me in the future.I am so happy you took the time and effort to make this. Kind regards

  34. Neale says:

A simply stupid and an inaccurate depiction of the lives of all flght attendants. They are the reason that there are so many bad “flight attendant” jokes.

  35. Tonya Ozaeta says:

Very awesome article, I super agree with you! Just to let you know, I find this style very interesting, I’ll add it to my website :) Keep up the posting!

  36. Blaise says:

Re:RICK – This guy would obviously like planes full of “hot girls,” because it’s one place they can’t run away from a tool like him.

Re:SHERA – of course they actually work as FAs. Odds are they were hired to be on the show though. All these “reality” shows do it. All the female dates on “Millionaire Matchmaker” are culled from casting agencies.

Re:MARK – Dude, don’t brag about driving a Camaro, really. It’s not a matter of what you drive anyways. I have a decent car as well, but facts is facts: a FA, working a normal (i.e. not flying every second of their life) schedule earns between $16K and $60K a year, depending on carrier, seniority, etc. Not rich by any means. And if you live in a city like NY or SF, even $60K is barely enough to live on. Now, $60K in Des Moines or Detroit is good money, so it’s all relative.

  37. TraceyM says:

It was HORRIBLE!!! Nothing even close to the real thing. It was more like a soap opera where everyone works at an airline instead of a a hospital.

  38. TraceyM says:

It was HORRIBLE! It was a soap opera where everyone works for an airline instead of a hospital…..same yukky stuff with a different employer. Don’t waste you time.
